The Puritans decreed that the establishment of a college was as
important as simply surviving in their daily quest for food and shelter. This
set the stage for the New England region to become a capitol of higher learning.
This commitment to higher learning, integral to Boston Puritan culture, set the
colony on a track of innovation, although that was not the conscious Puritan desire.
