Technology: "Desh" Deshpande, for his unparalleled serial innovations from Cascade (network switch--backbone of the internet) to Sycamore (intelligent optical networking), Airvana (enabling mobile broadband everywhere), A123 (rechargeable batteries for transportation), and a score of others. With the Deshpande Center at MIT, he has helped to change the innovation culture, while embodying the power of immigrants to help propel Greater Boston's innovation economy.

Information Technology: Akamai Technologies/Paul Sagan/ Tom Leighton/ Jonathan Seelig/ George Conrades, for developing on-line streaming for the Web

Social Innovation: New Profit, Inc./Vanessa Kirsch & Board, for venture philanthropy to pursue large-scale social change

Healthcare: Dr. William Hinton, a son of slaves and the first African American to hold the rank of Professor at Harvard Medical School, for developing the "Hinton Test" for accurately diagnosing syphilis in 1927 – at what is now Tufts-New England Medical Center
